Qatar Sports Investments Set To Take Over KAS Eupen FC
Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) has agreed to acquire Belgian football club KAS Eupen, further expanding its global sports portfolio and strengthening its position as a multi-club operator.
The investment group, which already holds majority ownership of Paris Saint-Germain and a minority stake in Sporting Clube de Braga, confirmed the move on 9 December after signing a Memorandum of Understanding to complete the full acquisition.
The deal, which remains subject to standard regulatory approvals, grants QSI immediate responsibility for the club’s sporting operations. Under the terms of the MoU, QSI will assume full operational control of Eupen, including all sporting, commercial and business assets.
New chapter for KAS Eupen
The group said it will apply its expertise and international network to support the club’s next phase of development while integrating Eupen into its wider multi-sport and multi-business model.
KAS Eupen is being acquired from the Aspire Zone Foundation, whose stewardship since 2012 helped establish the team as a respected presence in Belgian football. The club, based in the German-speaking region of East Belgium, currently competes in the Challenger Pro League and has long been recognised for its pathway linking Aspire’s youth development system with the European game.
QSI said Belgium’s competitive football landscape, known for producing elite talent and strong clubs, offers significant potential for long-term sustainable growth. Its investment strategy will prioritise strengthening the sporting model, developing the youth academy, upgrading infrastructure and expanding commercial opportunities both domestically and internationally. Community engagement will also be a central focus.
Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, Chairman of Qatar Sports Investments, said the acquisition marked an important step in the group’s long-term vision. “Qatar Sports Investments is proud to become the custodian of KAS Eupen and contribute to the development of football in Belgium. With QSI’s global expertise and passion for football, our objective is to build a modern, competitive football and business structure – bringing pride to KAS Eupen supporters and building on the Club’s great legacy to date. We warmly welcome into our family a fantastic Club and community.”
QSI continues to broaden its reach beyond football, with investments in the Premier Padel global tour, cultural assets such as Art Basel and wider multi-sport ventures including motorsports and basketball. The addition of KAS Eupen further embeds its strategy of developing high-performance environments and expanding athlete pathways across its network.
KAS Eupen, founded in 1945 and known as “the Pandas”, plays its home matches at Kehrwegstadion and is celebrating its 80th anniversary year in 2025. The club retains strong community roots and a reputation for nurturing emerging talent.
