Abu Dhabi Announces First-ever Bitcoin-rewarded NFL Flag Football Event

Abu Dhabi will welcome NFL stars for the Bitball Flag Football event on December 10, marking the first American football competition where winners receive Bitcoin rewards.

The event, set for Al Nahyan Stadium at 7pm, features Super Bowl Champion Russell Okung, who made headlines as the first professional athlete to receive his salary in Bitcoin.

The roster includes 22 NFL veterans including Antonio Brown, Le’Veon Bell, Johnson Bademosi, Jurrell Casey, Jared Evans, Dez Bryant, Dontrelle Inman, Mohammad Sanu, Randell Johnson, Michael Thomas, Craig Robertson, and Wesley Woodyard.

Abu Dhabi to host first bitcoin-rewarded NFL event

“The flag football match at our Bitcoin event is no accident—it embodies the collaboration and resilience of the Bitcoin community. Russell Okung’s push to empower athletes with Bitcoin is a forward-thinking vision that moves us more into mainstream consciousness. We’re proud to host this mission at the Bitcoin Conference, bringing purpose and excitement to our attendees,” George Mekhail, BTC Inc. said

The event coincides with Bitcoin MENA 2024, which organisers call the largest gathering of Bitcoin investors, developers, and stakeholders.

Bitcoin MENA ticket holders receive free entry to the match, while separate tickets are available through the website.

The timing aligns with flag football’s rise in prominence, as the sport becomes the NFL Pro Bowl’s official game and secures a spot in the 2028 Summer Olympics.

The International Federation of American Football reports the sport may overtake tackle football in organised participation.

Bitcoin Magazine will stream the event on its platforms, including X, Rumble, and YouTube, for global viewers.
