The Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) has introduced the Electronic Check Clearing System (ECCS) service to its website, enabling cheque clearing to be completed within one business day.

SAMA said the new service has been added to its e-Services Portal as part of its broader digital transformation strategy, which focuses on delivering automated, secure and user-friendly services to individuals and organisations through a unified digital platform.

The ECCS service is designed to provide a faster and more efficient alternative to traditional cheque-clearing processes, while maintaining high standards of security and data protection.

SAMA noted that its e-Services Portal already offers a range of digital services, including inquiries about accounts, deposits and safe deposit boxes of deceased persons, submitting complaints against financial institutions, requesting the exercise of personal data subject rights, applying to join SAMA’s Regulatory Sandbox, and seeking non-objection approvals for leadership positions.

The central bank added that additional electronic services will be rolled out in future as part of ongoing efforts to enhance efficiency, accessibility and the overall user experience.
