UK Deploys Low-cost Anti-drone System In Middle East Operations

RAF Typhoon jets equipped with APKWS to counter aerial threats with precision and reduced costs

London: British citizens and regional partners will be better protected against drone attacks as the Royal Air Force (RAF) deploys a new low-cost anti-drone weapon in operations in the Middle East, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said.

The new Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) will be fitted to RAF Typhoon fighter jets, enabling them to destroy targets with precision at a fraction of the cost of the missiles currently in use, the MoD said in a press release.

The system has now been deployed in Middle East operations, with sorties carried out by No. 9 Squadron RAF Typhoon jets as part of missions to defend British personnel, interests and regional partners from evolving threats.
