Manila: A tsunami of up to 3 feet struck parts of the Philippines following a powerful magnitude 7.8 earthquake that hit the country’s southern region, prompting President Ferdinand Marcos to urge residents to move to higher ground.

Authorities reported casualties after the quake, with initial police figures indicating at least three people dead and four injured. Separate reports later indicated that the death toll had risen to at least four, with more than 200 people injured.

The earthquake caused significant damage in affected areas, while emergency services continue to assess the situation and provide assistance to those impacted.

Officials warned of continued risks following the quake, including aftershocks and further coastal hazards, as response efforts remain ongoing.
