Washington: US President Donald Trump said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would have “no choice” but to accept any agreement reached by the United States with Iran, asserting that he is ultimately “the one who makes the decisions,” according to an interview published in the Financial Times on Sunday.

The remarks came as tensions escalated again in the region. The Israeli military announced on Monday that it carried out airstrikes on “military targets” in western and central Iran, following missile launches from Iran into Israel — marking the first such attack since a ceasefire agreement was reached in April.

In a brief statement, the Israeli military said: “The Israeli Air Force just launched airstrikes against military targets belonging to the Iranian terrorist regime in western and central Iran.”

Amid the renewed escalation, Trump and Netanyahu held a phone call as concerns grew over the stability of the fragile ceasefire. A US official, cited by Axios, said the conversation took place at a critical moment as Washington seeks to prevent further conflict after weeks of heightened tensions involving Iran, Israel, and US forces in the region.

The developments underline the growing strain on ceasefire efforts and the risk of renewed confrontation despite ongoing diplomatic efforts.
