French Aircraft Carrier Group Deploys To Red Sea, Gulf Of Aden

Charles de Gaulle strike group moves south after crossing Suez Canal amid efforts to support maritime security operations

Paris: France’s Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier group is moving into the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden as part of joint French and British efforts to prepare for a future mission aimed at safeguarding freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, France’s military said on Wednesday.

The French Armed Forces Ministry said in a statement that the carrier group crossed the Suez Canal on Wednesday and is heading toward the southern Red Sea.

The aircraft carrier strike group had been deployed to the eastern Mediterranean shortly after the United States and Israel launched air strikes on Iran. It is capable of remaining at sea for four to five months.
